Roberto Patella
Photographer / Director
Roberto Patella is a photographer and sculptor based in Milan and New York City. His pursuit of rendering still a moment that is inherently fleeting is incubated within a propensity to research, record and recount; all which are inspired from his strong identity with his immigrant heritage. In August 2017, Roberto had his first solo art show in the Aragonese Castle just outside the city of Lecce, Italy.  The project entitled “Gli Uni e Gli Altri” put a spotlight on the the ideas, customs, and social behavior of the Apulian people.  For this, he combined recorded soundscapes and over 70 photographs to create a multi-sensory experience for the spectator, enabling them to be immersed in the sounds and sights of a culture whose colors are slowly fading. His second solo show was in Milan in May of 2019.  An observation of human, plant and figurative form, the project entitled “The Infinite Landscape of Fragmented Thoughts” includes works in photography and bronze sculpture.

While he isn’t spending his time creating, he acts as an instructor of photography at Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan.

Maya has shot & directed commercials and content for brands including Budweiser, Ford, Chrysler, Visa, Procter and Gamble, General Motors, General Mills, American Express, Hulu Sports Network and more.

In addition to his national commercial work, Directing and DP’ing on the Oprah Winfrey Network TV documentary series, Operation Change, and his work on the Starz network series, Magic City, his latest endeavors have been focused on the world of humanitarian documentary films and social responsibility campaigns. He’s shot and developed content and films for Clinton Global Initiative, Forest Whitaker Peace and Reconciliation Initiative, Ashton Kutcher’s Thorn Foundation, Elton John’s Aides Foundation, Major League Baseball, The NFL Pros for Africa, The NBA, Starkey Hearing Foundation and countless others.

Needing minimal crew and only essential gear to get the job done on his global shoots, he believes in big production values while making a small footprint. Through his philosophy, he brings a sense of logical order to potentially complicated situations; transcending logistically challenged jobs makes him a leader for production’s new era.
